The HLMW9 (college for higher vocational education) is situated in the heart of Vienna, in the 9th district, right behind the Volksoper. Due to this central location culture, history, tradition and the modern world can be intertwined - inspiring our students to create exceptional projects.
Both in the department of economics as well as in the fashion department training opportunities are manifold. In the secondary vocational school the focus is on culture and hospitality, whereas in the college for higher vocational education the emphasis is on cultural tourism.
The bases of this type of school are the vocational classes, where especially life skills are taught. Communication and customers and guest relations are central aims of this programme. The aquired practical knowledge is used at events, language competitions and internships in Austria and abroad.
Close cooperation with the economy (e.g. with the official representation of employees and the chamber of commerce) distinguishes us from other schools.
Improving our relationship with the environment is another goal of high priority.
Due to our responsible and sustainable use of resources our school has been awarded the OEKOLOG seal.
Our diversity is not only reflected in the different departments and projects carried out with external partners, but also through individual support and the use of various methods.
Individual support is particularly given in COOL classes, COOL being short for Cooperative Open Learning. In this way self-organised learning and social skills are encouraged.
Different topics are approached from different angles (e.g. economics, nutrition, geography, languages...). This is done partly in teams and partly individually, so that strengths can be fostered and potential weaknesses reduced.
We are the only school in Vienna to offer a 3-year secondary vocational education for hearing-impaired students, with the option of attending an add-on-course afterwards.
Multiple-class projects help bring inclusion and integration to life.
All in all our school stands for:
